A few weeks ago, we talked about the korean band Phonebooth in one of our “Coups de cœur” articles (in French). This korean independent band is not really famous in France, so for people to know more about them we asked them to answer a few questions for an interview.
Here is the interview:
Could you present the band?
Hello, this is Rock’n’Roll band Phonebooth from South Korea!
How did you met each other?
Four of the members (except Min-seok, the drummer) are from the same high school. We first started as a school band. After graduating from high school, we realized that we wanted to form a band seriously. So we formed « Phonebooth ». After a year we formed a band, one of our friend introduced Min-seok.
How would you describe your musical universe?
Pure enegetic Rock’n’Roll music. And the stories of our lives.
According to you, which song represents the best your music?
We think it is « Flowers on the waves ».
Do you have artists who are inspiring you when you are working on new songs? In what way are they inspiring you?
When working on new songs, we don’t have any specific artists that influences us. We just try to find « the right color » on each song.
Would you like to come for a tour in Europe someday?
Sure. From the very first day we started « Phonebooth », we always wanted to go for a tour in Europe. We want to make it happen, we believe it will come true someday.
Do you have something like a ritual, something you do or say just before going on stage?
We do not have any specific ritual stuff before going on stage. We just unconsciously think ‘OK, Let’s make a nice gig! ‘
With which Korean band or artist would you like to tour?
We would like to tour with Pavlov. We have spent our 20s with them, we would like to tour with them like we are still in our 20s.

Would you like to add other influences from different musical genre in your own tracks?
We have never thought of a different musical genre, but we want to make a magnificent track with a children’s choir.
If we add children’s clear ringing voice to our music, it would be so nice.
What is your biggest fear?
Maybe someday in the future, if I get old and my body condition gets worse I will have to quit smoking or drinking.
What is your favorite Korean food?
I am not sure if I can call this “Korean Food” or not, but Korean Fried Chicken is really delicious.
Have you ever tasted French food? Would you like to try some?
I have tried “Coq au Vin”. And I cooked it myself!
In Korea, which places would you recommend a foreigner to visit? Can you explain why?
In Korea, there is an island called Jeju Island. It is such a wonderful place to travel. In there, you can find clear blue sea water, and many nice restaurants. If you want to taste something nice and have fun, Jeju island might be the best choice.
