Formed back in 2014, the quartet DADAROMA imposed his own style and his crazy concepts in a part of the Japanese music industry that has been having a hard time for several years now. While the band will celebrate his 5th anniversary at the beginning of 2020, DADAROMA came to Europe for a long-awaited first show and appeared at the Japan Expo festival, right in time for the 20th year anniversary of the famous event. The French audience could enjoy the exceptional coming of the band in France to find out more about the energy they usually show on stage in their native country.

For the resurrection of visual kei at Japan Expo, CKJ’s team had the opportunity to interview the four members of DADAROMA! Stay tuned to find out more about this promising band!

Hi, first of all, can you introduce yourselves to our readers?

Takashi: Hi, I’m Takashi, the guitarist.
Tomo: I’m Tomo, the bassist.
Yoshiatsu: I’m the singer Yoshiatsu.
Ryohei: I’m Ryohei, I play drums.

What are the key messages you try to convey through your music?

Yoshiatsu: In everyday life, there are the things that we like and others that we don’t. Regarding those things we don’t like, we would like to do something for things to get better. We want to provide a support.

Among all of your songs, is there one which is particularly delivering this message?

Yoshiatsu: The approach is different, but all of our songs are based on this.

If you had to introduce your music to someone who doesn’t know the group, what song would you choose?

Yoshiatsu: Obviously, all of them! (laughs) But if I had to pick only one, this would be our first song “Oboreru Sakana”, which you can find on YouTube in its full version.

Regarding composition, how do you split the work?

Takashi: It’s me, the guitarist, who composes the music and the singer takes care of the lyrics.

Does it change sometimes?

Takashi: This is how we are doing every song.

The aesthetic represents a huge part of the group. How long does it take to find a new concept for a new album?

Yoshiatsu: Do you mean the make-up, the outfit or the music?
CKJ: Everything except the music.
Yoshiatsu: It does not take a long time. When the music is ready, we are deciding about the outfits we want to wear. That is why it is quite fast.

Are you consulting each other to establish a common theme, or is everyone free to choose?

Yoshiatsu: We are all free. Freedom! (laughs)

For four consecutives years, you have released four albums entitled “Dadaism”. Do you plan to release the fifth one this year?

Yoshiatsu: As of now, we are focusing on another album. This album is yet to be released.

「dadaism♯2」
「dadaism♯3」
「dadaism♯4」

During concerts, what is your favorite moment?

Ryohei: It’s obviously during our performances, we can see the fans and their faces and it is a great motivation afterwards.

You had the opportunity to perform two songs on Tsubamé stage. How did you feel about the French audience?

Yoshiatsu: French people are enthusiastic, really bouncy. When I was handing them the mic, they were shouting “Wooh’”, it was awesome!

Regarding the showcase which will be hold Sunday on Karasu stage, do you plan to do something special as this is your first time in Europe?

Yoshiatsu: Actually, I don’t want to talk in French during my introduction. I think that fans love Japanese culture, so I would like to speak in Japanese. I might say “merci” at one point, but the special thing is that i would like to communicate in Japanese.

DADAROMA sur la scène Washoku

Earlier this afternoon, you were cooking at the Washoku stage. How did this unexpected cooking collaboration take place?

Ryohei: I have no idea! (laughs)
Yoshiatsu: It is our company Timely Records who told us it could be funny, so why not try it? And we answered we were okay with it. (laughs)
CKJ: Did you enjoy it in the end?
Yoshiatsu & Ryohei: The man who hosted has done everything! (laughs)

Is there any other dish you would like to cook on a special show for example?

Ryohei: Yeah, màpó dòufǔ. [editor’s note: a Chinese dish with spicy tofu and rice]

Are there any other aspects of the Japanese culture at Japan Expo that you would like to experience?

Tomo:  I very much like anime and manga. Gundam should not be missed. (laughs) It is something I really like.
Ryohei: I enjoy video games, so if there is a corner, I would like to try.
CKJ: There is one, an e-sport corner, which has been extended this year.
Yoshiatsu: I have eaten three times since I have been here in France, so I would enjoy tasting French food, from Paris. I have noticed some waffles stands. I’d really like to eat some!
Takashi: I would like to take pictures of cosplays. (laughs) Not me being in the photo, but taking some photos.
Ryohei: Sexy women! (laughs)

Do you have a last message for the European and French fans ?

Yoshiatsu: We have performed on Tsubamé stage, and even if we were only able to play two songs, we felt a true bond with the crowd! Even if they didn’t understand Japanese, we felt that we could really share something with them. So, we would like to share and to let them know who we are!

We would like to truly thank Japan Expo and DADAROMA for making this interview possible!
